Pipridae (Manakins)

  • Phylogenetic placement: Tyranni: Tyrannida
  • Distribution: North, Central and South America
  • Number of extant genera: 16 (17)
  • Number of extant species: 55

Traditional genus-level classification of extant Pipridae following the AviList checklist v2025. (link) The number of subspecies is given in parentheses.

[Notes: (1) The phylogenetic arrangement follows Harvey et al. 2020 and Leite et al. 2021, whose parallel analyses produced congruent results. (2) Since chrysolophum must be excluded from Neopelma to render the genus monophyletic (Harvey et al. 2020: Leite et al. 2021), van Els et al. 2023 assigned it to its own genus, Protopelma.]
